AIHce 2010 Brings New Frontiers in Science and Practice to Denver

Professionals in the industrial hygiene and environmental health and safety (EHS) fields will gather in Denver, Colorado, May 22–27, 2010, for the annual American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Expo (AIHce). Co-sponsored by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH), AIHce 2010 will host an array of speakers to present New Frontiers in Science and Practice.
AIHce 2010 will feature long-standing sessions and professional development courses (PDCs), as well as new programming. Highlights of this year’s conference include:
? Opening and general session presentations on “Redesigning Our Future” by Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of Jacques Cousteau and president of Oceans Future Society; “The Labor Movement: Building Health and Safety Protections on the Job” by AFL-CLO President Richard L. Trumka; and “New Frontiers in Science and Practice” by Assistant Secretary of Labor David Michaels, PhD, MPH; and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Director John M. Howard, MD, MPH, JD.
? A new symposium on Leadership in Energy and Design (LEED) and green building design, construction, and operation.
? Sixty-seven PDCs, including special PDCs, Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Exam Preparation Workshop, Fundamentals of Finance and Accounting for Nonfinancial OEHS Managers, and Time Management in an Age of Turbulence, as well as new weekend courses on project management, decision making in exposure assessments, and promoting the value of industrial hygiene in business.
? The enhanced Unsolved IH Mysteries Workshop, luncheon discussions, poster sessions, programming geared to students and early career professionals (including the Future Leaders and Young Member Reception and a luncheon talk specifically for students), “Tech Talks” given by volunteer groups, NIOSH’s Emerging Issues/Current Trends discussion, and a variety of technical tours.
? The MSA Cocktail Reception now co-sponsored by AIHA, Expo Theater Presentations and Product Demos sponsored by the Colorado Safety Association, and an assortment of roundtable discussions.
? Attendees can also show their support for the American Industrial Hygiene Foundation (AIHF) by participating in the 26th Annual AIHF Fun Run/Walk.
AIHce participants not only have the opportunity to partake in the conference and expo in the health and safety industry, but they also get the chance to experience the Mile High City. Denver’s hundreds of museums and galleries, shops, and restaurants make it the ideal city for the sophisticate, while its many bike paths and short distance from the Rockies make it paradise for the nature lover and adventure seeker. Must-see city attractions include the ever-popular Denver Zoo and Denver Botanical Gardens, LoDo (the lower downtown area), and the gold-domed State Capitol building. Visitors can also indulge in hot springs, enjoy whitewater sports and fly fishing, or take a tour of Colorado’s many “ghost towns” and dude ranches.
