Each month POLLUTION EQUIPMENT NEWS and INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE NEWS receives over 1000 news releases. A review of the method of producing these releases could result in substantial savings of time for you and result in substantial savings of time for you and the editors of POLLUTION EQUIPMENT NEWS and INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE NEWS. The following suggestions on the preparation of news releases will not guarantee publication in POLLUTION EQUIPMENT NEWS or INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE NEWS.

1. Send press releases pertaining to the field by email to lcinna@rimbach.com or mail to Rimbach Publishing Inc., 8650 Babcock blvd. Pittsburgh, PA. 15237

2. Eliminate duplicate releases. This saves us time by eliminating cross checks for duplicates and helps us reduce our solid waste. Check your mailing list. Be sure that POLLUTION EQUIPMENT NEWS or INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE NEWS appears only once.

3. Tell the editor what the release is about in a short descriptive title.

4. Make the release brief. Use 100 to 150 words. Type the copy double spaced. Briefly discuss the principle of operation, use and applications. Mention only one product per release.

5. Avoid abbreviations not generally accepted. Do not write the release so that only the inventor or company president will understand.

6. Watch the writing style. Avoid the advertising or public relations style. Many releases cannot be used because they are simply advertising.

7. Make sure your company name address and zip code are listed. Many times a release lists only the company name without an address or does not even mention the company name. If an agency prepares the release, be sure that the correct address information is listed.

8. If mailing: Use standard 8 1/2" x 11" paper. Odd size paper does not gain reading recognition. They are difficult to file and you risk having your release separated from the material being processed.

9. Use your letterhead. Preferably white or pale yellow paper. Do not use colors, especially blue as it is difficult to read copy through this color If sending via email attach as a Word document.

10. Use a method of reproduction that is clear and easily read. Remember: an editor's eyes are his most important tool.

11. Photos should be of professional quality. Avoid confliction backgrounds and unnecessary props such as people.

12. Photo identification is very important. Identify the company, the product and top or bottom on the back of each photo. When emailing the photo please attach as TIFF or JPEG file at 300DPI.

13. Photos not used in publication will not be returned after publishing.

14. Never assume that the editors will schedule a release for a specific issue. Every Effort is made to include your news release in the issued being processed. Also, do not write or call us seeking "if and when" the release will appear. A clipping of the release is sent to the manufacturer when it appears.
